Easily print an email' message body only without header and username in Outlook As you know, when printing an email in Outlook, it will print out both of email header and email body as what you view in the Message window or Reading Pane. What's more, it usually adds your username above the message header. Here, I want to introduce the excellent Advanced Print feature of Kutools for Outlook, which enables you to print an email' message body only without the message header and username, and remaining the background image in Outlook.

Normal operation: select email from inbox or other folder list, click on. Print; email print preview window appears, followed by print dialog box; click on print. If print dialog box does not appear, click on the print link in the upper left corner; continue. New operation, asof 3 days ago; select email from list; click on. Instead it contains only the picture from he left side of the sign-in page, w/ no print link, only a contact us link in the lower right corner, which yields the Help with Microsoft account page. I downloaded Safari and signed in to login.live.com. Selected an email, etc. The print preview window came up as advertised. Closed the window.
Next, and all subsequent tries, the print preview window behaved as described in new operation above. The print preview and print functions seem to work OK in all other applications, including IE9. I vaguely remember having this problem a long time ago, but have no idea how it was fixt. Hi Robert, Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I do appreciate your efforts and time. Has your Outlook account upgraded to Outlook Mail (Preview)? Try to reset Internet Explorer and check if it helps.

If the issue persists, do get back to us. We will be happy to assist you. I have tried each of the suggested steps above, but the problem persists in IE9, Version 9.0.8112.16421 (Update versions: 9.0.44) on Vista Home Basic/SP2.
I log into my hotmail account in Outlook.com. As far as I can tell my account hasn't upgraded to Outlook Mail (Preview). The print function works fine when I open Outlook.com in Firefox Version 42.0, Chrome Version 46.0.2490.86, and Safafri Version 5.1.7 (7534.57.2). (Note, however, that in Chrome the normal Outlook.com print preview window flashes briefly but is replaced by the Chrome version which is the same size as the Outlook.com print preview window' but contains the Chrome print dialog on the left half and a miniaturized full page of the email (sometimes only header w/out content) on the right half of the window.) Some emails tell me I need to upgrade to IE10 or higher, but Vista doesn't seem to like that. (I don't understand why Vista is still supported, but not w/ IE versions capable of http5). As said in my original question, I think this happened a long time ago with Outlook.com, but can't remember how it got fixt.

Actions are the key Here’s a typical email message displayed in Outlook.com: The trick is to notice that little “Actions” label at the upper right of the message (please see below if you do not have an “Actions” menu): Apparently, a lot of people miss it. Click that and it’ll drop down a menu of options: Click that and Outlook.com displays a window showing only the message: And it will then effectively click the Print button for you. Here’s what pops up using Google Chrome: Chrome includes an immediate print preview (as well as a Save as function, for those so inclined), so you can see what the printed message will look like. Outlook.com appears to be migrating to a user interface that does away with the Actions menu. Instead you’ll find the Print option here: Clicking on the “three dots” near the top of the window (actually an meaning that the menu bar is “continued”) drops down an additional menu that contains the print action.
Remember that a message must be selected or open in order for either the Actions menu or the ellipsis to be displayed. Video Enough people were expressing difficulty seeing what I see that I thought I’d add this video walking through the process. Sure no action drop down. 3 dots come down and when pressing on print goes into box but tells me to be logged in but has a problem. I’m not that stupid because I’m logged in and message is open.
My office manager is really swift with computer knowledge and can’t figure this out. I’ve been sending messages to her email and printing from her account. Hotmail was so easy nothing about outlook.com is easy. Not friendly rogram at all. The person that creative it needs to rethink is knowledge on computers just saying. I’m not happy.
Thank you Leo, for your answer to a question I never thought to ask. I thought I just had to live with it, along with all the other inconveniences and problems with Hotmail, now Outlook. I don’t have the “action” button either, but now that I know the three dots give me the same options, I’m happy. I only wish there was an answer to why the font sometimes changes in certain sections of e-mails that I send. I don’t know if the recipient sees it that way, but that’s how it looks when I open an e-mail I sent. Glad I signed up for your newsletter. Your choice of questions to answer is impeccable!
Thank you for the read. I was looking for the print button and could not find it. Located it only due to the hint given in this thread – the three dots. Those appear only on the upper menu of the whole thing and seem not to be linked to the message opened as such. Nevertheless, it enables to print the message that was selected. How stupid can you go, would be my first and the only question but I will not require an answer to this. Someone must have an experiment running on us.
I have been using computers and different e-mail programmes for almost 20 years. Thanks for the help! Thanks Leo for your well laid out and easy reply. However I too do not have the ‘Actions’ label on anytype of email message, whether from private person or from a company. But your answer made me search harder and I too found the 3 dots- drop down menu and then Print instruction which laid out the message correctly. I use several email programs and they all differ in various ways, none stands out as better than others I feel but I do know that you need to ‘look at’ all the headings; drop down menu’s etc to get full use of their facilites – which is why I feel so stupid at not clicking on the 3 dots.!
Thanks again one and all. Microsoft and intuitive in the same sentence is an oxymoron. I’ve seen a lot of questions on Ask Leo! From people who don’t have the actions menu choice. What I believe might be happening is that MS is gradually shifting people to the newer less intuitive menu. If they switched everybody at the same time, it wouldn’t be so bad as sites like Ask Leo!
Would simply be able to tell people about the change. As it works now, I’m finally realizing that this probably isn’t a bug some people have, but a change MS is making, creating a very confusing situation.
A late followup to this but my friend cant print from outlook. I had a look and in all the print options are there but the box that pops up showing the email you’re trying to print only show a photo and says login.
No other oprions. We are already logged in as we have the emails in front of us. You can use the web page print option but you get all the adds and menus from the webpage. In a last bid attempt i installed chrome which works as you show above. So we can use that from now on but i think there must be something with in IE that is set wrong. Although my friend hasny changed any thing, it just stopped working as it had done.
Its not blocked pop ups or anything. Any ideas???? Do not have actions in my Outlook.com. Cannot print with the.
This problem has been going on since the last update to Outlook. I thought turning off the protected mode would help but no. I have internet explorer 11. I can print from Outlook that is part of Microsoft office and not through the internet just fine. I had read that Outlook is trying to correct but when will this happen. In the mean time I have to use light shot if I am to print. I have tried just about every little fix that has come around except adding the line to my registry which is not going to happen by my hand.
Thanks, Phyllis. I just read about the three dots here after discovering them by accident three hours ago after 24 hours of fuming and cursing and giving up and asking online.
Is printing such a rarely used function that they had to tuck it under three dots? I thought those three dots were a decorative element until my cursor tripped over it in a random sweep. I already vented my rhetorical fury on Outlook, but I’m feeling the rage again. Whose idea was that??!! Now I think I understand what’s pissing off Godzilla. And then they ask me how likely I am to recommend Outlook to a friend.
I was nearly going mad trying to work out why my emails in Hotmail weren’t printing correctly. I was getting the folder box to the left plus ads to the right and that was being printed with little of the email I wanted printed.
Thank you Leo for pointing out the word ACTIONS to the top right of the email but take note people that to see the ACTIONS box you have to open the email that you want to print FIRST. Click on PRINT NOW and in all of 5 seconds you will get your email printed exactly how it used to print. Many thanks Leo for your expertise. You have been a great help Best wishes Marilyn.
It may be helpful to understand that email programs are not written for printing. For instance, one of Microsoft Word’s prime functions is to create printed documents. Email programs, on the other hand, have printing as an add-on minor function. Email works best read as threads inside your email client. It doesn’t make your job any easier, but will hopefully help ease the frustration. If you really need those emails printed, just take your time and do it the best you can.
Make yourself a nice cup of tea and don’t get stressed because there is no easy way to do it! Last year we had problems printing emails in Hotmail/Outlook. We followed your directions of clicking on the three dots which enabled us to print “All the Pages” in a long email. However about two weeks ago, things changed.
Even though the Print Box says Print All, it only prints the first page of an email. What is wrong? How can we again print all the pages in an email? Also, how do you get rid of that obnoxious “Advertising Box” on the right side of the screen?
Your expertise is much appreciated. Dear Leo, I’ve had problems printing out emails for ages, years, only the left hand side printed out and I couldn’t figure out why. It was so frustrating so today 6th Jan 2016 I searched internet for “Print out emails” and found your advice page. You helped me with the answer and surprisingly it was so simple! I found the 3 dots (ellipsis) as you advised and the drop down menu to Print and it worked! I was overjoyed to see the whole email page printed out.
It’s not often that the solutions to a problem are so easy. I never knew what the 3 dots were but I do now thanks to you. I can’t thank you enough for your helpful advice. The printing of emails on Outlook, thank you so much for taking the time to help all of us out. I received an email regarding the effects that a Statin drug has had on my friends wife and it was imperative to have it copied so a doctor here in Illinois could analyze. Directly related to the Statin, she has been hospitalized for over two (2) months very serious!
Vista Print Email Account
So your knowledge of how to accomplish certain tasks with a computer, touches many different people in many different ways. This my seem very academic to you, but to us it was urgent and necessary. Can’t thank you enough, Paul. I used to have a Windows Live mail account set up as I NEVER ever could get anything to print using the Outlook e-mail. I tried for months to no avail. Recently Windows LIVE died as they are no longer supporting it so now I am back to not being able to print a useable paper e-mail or receipt.
The only way I can get anything to copy is to put the cursor on the body of the e-mail, do a right click, scroll down and click on print. It will print but it is useless and a waste of paper as on the left side it copies a list of your e-mail folders, with a list of your most recent in box e-mails just to the right of that. Then there is about a two inch wide section of the e-mail I WANT to copy, overlaid on the right side with all the ads they force on me. Tis is the same as what shows on the screen.
I used to be able to double click on the message when opening it and it woul make it full screen but that also no longer works. If I click on the three dots I do get the drop down box, but nothing ever happens when I click on print.
Can you tell me how to actually make a decent print using Outlook? Thanks, David. Leo, THANKS a million! I read your article and I did download the Mozilla Thunderbird email. What an IMMEDIATE difference and so much simpler and easier to use I am amazed. EVERYTHING works on it just like you would imagine it should!
Maybe Outlook should take some lessons from them? I only wish I had found your site and directions a long, long, l-o-n-g, while back.
If I had, I would have been able to spend at least a couple days of my life doing other much more enjoyable and less frustrating things than constantly trying to get a simple e-mail or receipt printed! I sure do appreciate your help. Using Outlook.com, I’ve recently received a few emails where the sender’s name is displayed, but not the sender’s email address.
The printed version used show the sender’s email address even if it did not appear onscreen, but recently only the name shows up on the printed version. Placing the cursor over the sender’s name onscreen does cause the sender’s email address to appear in a bubble.
But the address does not appear the printed version. Is there a setting I’ve missed? (If it matters, the sender is not in the contact list associated with my Outlook.com account.).
